5 Years in All Courses?

Starting school year 2009-2010 courses are now 5 years to take that’s what CHED said. The courses are accountancy, architecture, education, nursing, engineering, occupational therapy, physical therapy and pharmacy. In an interview, Angeles said the program is part of the overall effort to transform the Philippine educational system into one that conforms to global standards. Presidential Adviser for Education Mona Valisno also said the five-year courses would do more to improve the Filipino graduates’ competitiveness in the international labor market. For more…

I don’t think this is necessary because most courses like me an engineering graduate have subjects before that does not really relevant to my course and it is already a 5 year course. If they are thinking about the competitiveness in the labor market I suggest they should study each courses first, weight things, what are relevant subjects and the trainings the students need after they graduate. CHED should also see to it that the schools are capable to do these requirements and had enough facilities to accommodate all the students.

One thing also, as we all know we are experiencing a global crisis as they say, some couldn’t anymore afford to go to school so how much more now that it is a five year course already, unless the government will provide part time jobs for the students.

Well I agree to this only if the curriculum is reasonable and that could really benefit the new generation today. Lucky if you are born rich, they can go to any prestigious school they want but either way it will always still up to the students how he or she wants his life to be.

Raid in Ateneo de Davao University?

A bunch of armed policemen came to Ateneo de Davao University and the securities were so tight. As I arrived almost 9am in the morning January 14, 2009, I was surprised of what I saw because they almost occupy the area, I wonder what the commotion is. I was confused which way to pass because it might not be allowed to go that way.

As I reached the area where the group of policeman at, I look around who they arrested or what, but I saw some men wearing formal attire and I thought there is a visitor in the campus. I over heard some policemen talking that the president of East Timor a country in the Southeast Asia Dr. Jose Ramos-Horta, received a Nobel Peace Prize award in 1996, will come in the school.

Nobody knows except for the people involve, that there will be an affair in the school premises. They will be talking about peace and order. I’m not quite sure if President Gloria Arroyo will also come it is just a rumor.

It is really a different feeling when you find too many policemen that they don’t usually come to that place and you don’t know the purpose why they are there. Well we all know the life of a celebrity and powerful men. We just have to get use to it.

Christmas And New Year in Davao City

Christmas and New Year in Davao City was a very peaceful and silent night, for Mayor Rodrigo Duterte creates a law that prevent the use, selling and holding of firecrackers in the city. Meaning it is not allowed, a fine or imprisonment is the punishment for disobeying the law.

Actually there are still stubborn people that thinks could get away with it. As I watch “Para sa Masa” seen in ABC-CBN Davao, every Sunday 9:30AM, there are still many who are imprisoned because of it. They will only be released after they have judged by the court and since there are so many holidays last season, for the mean time they will be detained in jail. And for the kids who were caught they will only stay for one night in jail and a lecture is given to their parents by their Barangay Captains. So they really spent there Christmas and New Year in jail including the families of the detainees. It would be a lesson for them so that this year they will already think twice if they don’t want to spend their Christmas and New Year in jail.

As for me I enjoyed my Christmas and New Year, though I don’t have plenty of gifts received, I am still happy and enjoyed the love and time shared by my family and relatives to be together, to celebrate it. It is like a tradition already to celebrate Christmas Eve in my aunts’ house, we played some parlor games, of course eat a lot and drink less LOL. In New Year we visited one of our cousins who was sick and brought ice cream, to share it with him. Then roam in some places in the city.

Others say that they don’t really feel the spirit of Christmas and New Year without firecrackers. Well for me it is a good thing because, besides that it prevents the accidents that might cause by lighting the firecrackers and the money you spend in buying it, you will also have more time to spend with your family, relatives and friends that keeps the bond much stronger, instead of watching the dazzling firecrackers in the night.
